Snap Buttons Engineered for Leather
Standard snap buttons designed for cotton or synthetic fabric often fail in leather: prongs bend, sockets pull through, and the snap loosens after a few wears. Ata Buttons manufactures leather snap buttons specifically engineered for the demands of genuine leather, vegetable-tanned leather, and chrome-tanned leather — with reinforced posts, ring-grip sockets, and finishes that age gracefully alongside the material.
We supply leather goods manufacturers, leather jacket producers, handbag brands, and equestrian/saddlery suppliers across Europe, USA, and Asia.
Recommended Snap Types for Leather
🔩 Ring Snap Buttons
The strongest configuration for leather. Ring socket grips the stud with 30-50% more force than spring sockets. Ideal for leather jackets, biker vests, and heavy goods. Sizes 12.5mm-20mm.
⚡ Extra-Long-Prong Spring Snaps
Standard spring snap mechanism with elongated prongs (4-6mm) to penetrate thick leather without bending. Available in all standard sizes 10mm-17mm.
🏛️ Decorative Cap Snaps
Pearl, gemstone-set, or engraved caps for premium leather goods. Wallets, watch straps, jewelry rolls. 8mm-12.5mm decorative range.
🐎 Saddlery / Equestrian Snaps
Ultra-heavy-duty snap fasteners for saddlery, leather harnesses, and equestrian gear. Solid brass, withstands tension and weather. Browse saddlery range.

Installation Tips for Leather
- Pre-punch the hole. Use a leather hole punch matching the post diameter (typically 3-4mm). Never let the snap post pierce the leather on its own — it will cause splitting.
- Use a snap setting tool with anvil and punch — never a hammer alone. A 2-pound rubber mallet provides controlled crimp force.
- Match prong length to leather thickness. Standard prongs (3mm) work for soft leather under 1.5mm. Long prongs (5-6mm) are needed for 2mm+ leather.
- Test on scrap first. Different leather types behave differently — chrome-tanned is more elastic, vegetable-tanned is firmer.
- For thick or hard leather, use a hand press. Hammer methods can crack stiff leather; a press provides even pressure across the cap.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use plastic snap buttons on leather?
Not recommended. Plastic snaps lack the crimp strength to hold thick leather and the prongs are too short to penetrate cleanly. Always use metal snap buttons (brass, zinc, or stainless) for leather goods.
What is the minimum order quantity for leather snap buttons?
Standard MOQ is 5,000 pieces per style/size. Custom logo molds: 10,000 pcs MOQ. Mixed-finish or mixed-size assortments available with quantity break pricing. Free sample kit ships in 3 days.
Do you offer matching leather rivets?
Yes. We manufacture cap rivets and tubular rivets in matching finishes (antique brass, aged gold, gunmetal). Bundling snap and rivet orders earns volume discounts. Browse rivet collection.
