Zamak (Zinc Alloy)

What is Zamak?

Zamak (also Zamac or MAZAK) is a family of zinc-aluminum alloys, with Zamak 5 being the most common in textile accessories. It contains approximately 96% zinc, 4% aluminum, plus small amounts of copper and magnesium.

  • Manufacturing: Die-cast into complex 3D shapes
  • Surface quality: Excellent — smooth, detailed surfaces ideal for plating
  • Weight: Medium — heavier than aluminum, lighter than brass

When to Use Zamak

  • Weight: Heavy — provides premium, substantial feel

When to Use Brass

Brass is preferred for components requiring the best corrosion resistance, premium weight, and superior plating quality. Most of our snap buttons, eyelets, and jean buttons use brass as the base material.

Iron (Steel)

Low-carbon steel (iron) is the most economical base metal. It is stamped and formed into shape, then always plated to prevent rust.
